P. Fonteius P.f. Capito, 55 BC. Denarius (Silver, 18 mm, 4.07 g, 6 h), Rome. P•FONTEI]VS•P•F CAPITO•III•VIR Helmeted and draped bust of Mars to right, trophy behind his shoulders. Rev. MN•F[ONT•TR•MIL Warrior on horseback galloping right, thrusting spear downward at kneeling enemy in Gallic helmet, who holds sword and shield and is about to slay unarmed captive. Babelon (Fonteia) 17. Crawford 429/1. RBW 1536. Sydenham 900. Beautifully toned and very well centered. Scratches on the obverse and with some die wear on the reverse, otherwise, good very fine.
